Harley-Davidson EL 1936

The 1936 EL is a legend, its the first year of the Knucklehead engine with 61 ci. Early 36 bikes are class by themselves and will change during the same year, some of the unique features of the early engines are the exposed rockers, the notched cam cover, the primers on thr intake ports and dome covers on the iconic rocker boxes, other unique items like the big brake light switch operated by a pull chain and the Flat Top oil tank with banjo fitting oil lines. The list of unique parts on the 1936 EL motorcycle is long, here is my attempt to list some of them based on diving AMCA and restorers forums. front to back: the inward zerks on the springer, all grease zerks are from the button head type, unique steering damper knob with 4 drills on top cover, right hand 'ride control' knob. the stepped star hub, the front break cable tension nuts near the handlebar, one year only frame with round sidecar loops and curved stepped down tube, unique crash bar ears and mounting clamp, the instrument dash tin un drilled, 100mph Speedo dial with no trip meter,shifter gate with no steps but with round bottom notches the tube made shifter handle with spring and dome notch mechanic, Fuel tank with two fuel valves and no shut off valve, 36 engines equipped with split pinion shaft and flat screen breather trap valve and unique left bearing sealing flange, two types of heads, with primers or plugged holes and two types of rockers V brackets shapes, up to 3 types of cam covers, exposed rockers with 'baby jar' valves spring covers, rocker boxes simple sealing and very short oil out boss. the flat timer head with side open for the coil cable, crown point cam, un drilled base, the intake 'baby butt' 3 screws manifold and the M5 Carburetor with 2 bolts air filter flange with the slant Air horn, knurled fuel filter cup, unique oil pump shape where the oil pressure to dash tube connected, unique chain oiler head, narrow clutch similar to the VL type hidden under the narrow primary cover. unique shape root and 2 drills tip clutch lever, Gearbox breather location on kick cover, only 4 gearbox mounting bolts with a Y shape kick cover support bracket, open rear break stay, small 7.25" rear drum with dome shape side cover. chain guard mount to the fender strut, seat T bar with one ear / clevis pin, flat top oil tank with one year only oil changing instructions decal, banjo fitting oil lines, oil return tube ground the battery, patent decal on toolbox, bee hive tail light, tubular rear stand and short leg 6 ribs Jiffy stand...
